Eyelashes: we curl them, we coat them, we flaunt them, but too often, we damage them. So in order to give your lashes the TLC they so much deserve here are a few dos and don’ts of eyelash care to keep your lashes looking long, strong and beautiful all year-round.

DO Wear Goggles Before Diving In

Whether you’re on vacation or at home, taking a dip in the hot tub, pool or ocean can help melt away the day’s stress, but all that chlorine and saltwater can wreak havoc on the lash extensions. To stop your swim session from causing dryness and brittleness, it’s a good idea to wear goggles. This also prevents irritation that can tempt you to rub your eyes, damaging the lash extensions and causing them to fall out.

DO Protect Your Lashes from the Sun

It’s important to keep those damaging UV rays from drying out the eyelashes. The natural heat can also weaken eyelash extension bonds, so keeping direct sunlight to a minimum when you’re wearing extensions is a must. Wearing sunglasses is a great way to deflect sunlight away from the lashes, and wide-brimmed hats can keep the eye area shaded with the added bonus of protecting your complexion.

DON’T Get Sunscreen on Your Lashes

Does your makeup contain sunscreen? Sunscreen is great for keeping the skin healthy, but its effects on the lashes aren’t so favorable. The chemicals found in sunscreen — especially cream-based ones — can harm the delicate lashes and break down adhesive, damaging any extensions. When applying sunscreen, be careful to avoid the eye area, but make sure to fully protect yourself against sun damage with a pair of cute UV-blocking sunglasses!

Following these simple tips will help keep your lashes looking flawless and ready to take on any season, but if you’re looking to take your lash game to the next level, head to Cherry Lash for care from one of our certified lash artists.
