Despite the fact that many people are choosing to forego their false eyelashes for eyelash extensions that give you beautiful lashes every day, there are still those who are hesitant to try them. In part one of this multi-part series, we will cover a few of the most common myths associated with eyelash extensions in order to ease your mind and, hopefully, convince you to give them a shot.

Myth #1: Eyelash extensions hurt

If the only thing preventing you from getting lash extensions is that you worry it will hurt, then you’re in luck! Eyelash extensions are painless, as there is no plucking or pulling involved. Eyelash extensions are simply glued to your existing natural lashes, increasing the volume and length. The lash artist will use tweezers to pick up the lash extensions, apply the adhesive, and attach them to your natural lash. The entire process is completely painless, and you may even feel comfortable enough to take a nap!

Myth #2: Your natural eyelashes will be thinner and shorter once you no longer get extensions

Another reason that people may avoid getting lash extensions is because they think that once they stop getting the extensions, their natural lashes won’t be the same. If for some reason you decide that you no longer want eyelash extensions, there is no reason that your natural lashes should be any different than they were before. You may feel that your natural lashes are thinner or shorter than they were before, but that is because you were used to the extensions that gave you thick, long lashes.

Your eyelashes go through a growth cycle and, over time, they do fall out naturally. Because your lash extensions are attached to your natural lashes, they will fall out when your natural lash falls out. With that in mind, this normal growth cycle is not affected by your lash extensions, therefore when you stop getting the extensions, you can expect the same length and thickness that your lashes were before you got lash extensions.

Myth #3: Your eyelashes will fall out

As we mentioned above, your natural lashes go through a growth cycle. Have you ever found a loose eyelash on your cheek and used it to make a wish? The reason you find these eyelashes from time to time is because eyelashes go through a growth cycle, and at the end of it, they fall out. Before you start to stress about losing your eyelashes, it’s important to remember that this is a normal process, and for every eyelash that you lose, another one replaces it. When you get eyelash extensions, this process doesn’t change, which is why it’s important to schedule a relashing appointment every three to four weeks.

These are just a few of the myths that are commonly associated with eyelash extensions. Keep an eye out for part two in which we will discuss a few more myths that may be keeping you from getting the lashes of your dreams.
